At Barstow Community Hospital (BCH), inpatient and outpatient surgeries are performed five days per week, with emergency surgeries available as needed. BCH has an experienced surgical team including skilled surgeons, specialized equipment, and life-saving interventions. Pre-admission testing is conducted prior to a surgical procedure at BCH. It usually includes blood work, an EKG, chest x-ray, physical assessment and history. These studies are conducted to detect and correct any abnormalities prior to surgery. Education, instruction and an uncomplicated recovery are our goals, and they are accomplished at BCH by giving continuity of care to patients before and after surgery.
The Outpatient Services Department and Endoscopy Lab offers patients convenience along with the peace of mind of knowing they are just steps away from emergency care should it become necessary. A wide variety of outpatient procedures are performed at the Center daily. Same-day surgery options allow you to have a convenient and less invasive surgical experience.
Some important tips to remember. Follow your physician’s instructions in preparation for your surgery/procedure. This will allow you to avoid unnecessary delays and/or cancellations. Do not bring any items of value with you. Remember to prepare for a ride home prior to arriving the day of your surgery. Regardless of the surgical procedure,
California state law requires that a responsible adult be present to drive you home.
