Diagnostic Imaging

Barstow Community Hospital is positioned at the forefront of diagnostic healthcare in which disease is detected earlier, diagnosed more precisely and treated less invasively. The possibility of discovering disease or injury in an early stage, when a wider array of effective treatment options may be available, will help doctors make an accurate diagnosis, and recommend appropriate treatment for their patients. New digital imaging equipment enables us to electronically transfer images to other areas of the hospital, to physician offices or other medical facilities for review and consultation, if needed.

Imaging technology is ever-changing. At Barstow Community Hospital, we’re fully equipped with modern diagnostic imaging technology and offer services including x-rays, open MRI procedures, mammograms, ultrasounds, 16-slice CT scans, bone-density scans and more. Our patients benefit from this advanced imaging equipment as well as our skilled radiology technologists and well-trained physicians who are experienced at interpreting a variety of radiology exams. Providing detailed images of internal anatomy allows us to keep quality care close to home for you and your family.

Diagnostic Imaging Services:

• Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

• Fluoroscopy
Including a mobile fluoroscopic digital imaging system, commonly called a C-arm. The C-arm has multiple new image enhancement technologies that enable physicians to see tissue and bone detail with clarity.

• Computed Tomography (CT)
16-Slice Brilliance CT offers unprecedented speed and outstanding image quality, providing information to your physician faster and leading to a more accurate diagnosis and treatment options. Scans are quick and non-invasive.

• Nuclear Medicine
- Functional studies of the kidney, liver, brain, heart, gallbladder, stomach, bones, thyroid, lungs, and tumors.
- Gastric Emptying studies.
- Specialty exams, including SPECT Myocardial Perfusion, tumor localization, RBC and WBC (Leukocyte) labeling.

• Mammography Exams
Services include screening mammograms, breast needle localizations, breast ultrasounds and diagnostic screens. American College of Radiology (ACR) accredited.

• Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
This procedure assists physicians in obtaining the right amount of breast tissue for a definitive diagnosis of mammographic lesions without surgery.

• Ultrasounds Exams
- The hospital’s 3D/4D ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce moving images of a fetus, heart, abdominal organs and other soft tissues of the body. It is also used to analyze blood flow through the heart and vessels.
- The Vivid I cardiovascular ultrasound system provides miniaturized, high-performance echocardiography and
Echocardiogram — a cardiac test to see the heart with the use of noninvasive ultrasound imaging.

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems are able to generate high-quality diagnostic images through the use of an effective, yet safe, magnetic field. MRIs allow physicians to look inside the human body and obtain anatomical and functional diagnostic information. MRI uses no radiation, is non-invasive, and there are no known side or after effects. Our open MRI offers increased comfort and minimizes anxiety and claustrophobia in most cases. MRIs are effective in clinical evaluations of brain diseases, traumatic injuries, eye abnormalities, spine diseases, tumor detection, liver and other abdominal diseases, knee and shoulder injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, facial/neck abnormalities, infections, cardiac malformations, blood flow and vessel disorders.

• Bone Mineral Density
The bone densitometer unit detects osteoporosis by comparing a patient's bone mineral density to that of a young adult at peak bone strength.
